Harmony Week

We want to thank all students who participated in Harmony week. Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

We would like every student to remember that diversity is what makes Australia such a unique country. Everyone deserves to feel respected and a sense of belonging, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, religion and we would like to thank all those students who model this level of respect on a daily basis at Greenvale Secondary College and in the Greenvale community.

Year 7 Reflection term 1

By Mustafa El Akoumi

To my fellow Greenvale secondary college students and teachers today I want to talk about how term 1 went for us students. Term 1 started off with all of us students being nervous but excited at the same time. Moving from primary school to high school can be an overwhelming experience.

We started off familiarizing ourselves with our school classmates and mentor teachers. From then we moved on to getting our own lockers which is a big thing for year 7’s starting high school. We then moved on to our pre assessments which I hoped everyone tried their best. We also had our swimming carnival which was so much fun as it was a great experience and there was a lot of teamwork and bonding. By the way I must add that biderap did not win but there are more chances in the future for us to win ?.

We also had the welcome BBQ which was an amazing night as parents got to view the school, meet the teachers and eat some tasty snags. We also held our year level assemblies and students were given values awards and students were chosen for SRC.

The time then came for NAPLAN which was challenging at times however we all stood up to the task as well as our milestone tasks which were challenging given it was our first time doing a milestone task.

Enhancement classes also played a part in term 1 and it’s been very fun and we have all learnt a lot during these classes.

It was now time for us students to attend the school with our parents or guardians for parent teacher conferences which allowed our parents or guardians to see our progress which we have made in term 1 on our learning this was a great opportunity to show off our work we have been doing in class and also take back feedback from teachers.

An amazing opportunity for a few selected students was given for us to attend our previous Primary School to represent Greenvale Secondary College and speak to the Year 6 students about our experiences so far in High School, we answered questions from students and teachers. This was an amazing opportunity we were given to represent the school.

Overall, it has been an amazing start to the year we have all started off our year with a bang on behalf of myself and my fellow peers I would like to thank all the teachers, staff and principal for welcoming us all and giving us an opportunity to learn and grow in this amazing school and making us feel safe, confident and giving us the passion for us to learn and succeed.

This is Musty signing off.

Year 8 Reflection term 1

By Madison Murray and Rose Mlikota

This term has been full of excitement and great, new experiences. To begin, our school community has grown through the addition of the 2028 cohort of year sevens, new students in year 8 and new staff and teachers. They have all really contributed to the positive atmosphere and settled in so well to their new environment. Many of us have made new friends and we have all learned new things.

The swimming carnival was a big highlight of the term. The races and other events were competitive and everyone who wasn’t swimming was getting behind their teammates and eager to see the results. The dry events were another option if you didn’t feel like racing in the pool and they were full of enjoyment too. Afterwards we had a bit more relaxed time in the pools, some people had relay races, some had a go at the inflatable obstacle course and others played volleyball and markers up. Overall, it was lots of fun.

Our wellbeing day with the big sister experience and mancave was a great opportunity to learn more about topics such as mental health, friendships, relationships and self image. We also got the opportunity to reflect on ourselves and learn more about others along with strengthening or creating relationships with our peers. Harmony day was a great opportunity to display our support by wearing an orange accessory in celebration of everyone’s differences and diversity.

Recently the police graciously came to our school to teach us about a variety of topics such as weapons and the law. It was very enlightening to learn the distinction between different offences, what is legal and what isn’t and what happens if you don’t follow the law.

Overall, we have had a great term packed with learning and new experiences. Thank You.
